Coming by way of the Star Wars Celebration event in Anaheim (a geek-filled Mecca, populated with cosplayers, film fans, and the cast of the upcoming Star Wars movie The Force Awakens, which was live-streamed across the world), last night gave us a second look at Star Wars Episode VII, courtesy of the brand new The Force Awakens trailer available to view below.
Heavily playing on the fact Episode VII will be bringing the cast of the original Star Wars trilogy back into the fold (with Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford all stepping back into their respective roles as Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and Han Solo), the teaser also gave us glimpses of the newer members of the cast (including Attack The Block‘s John Boyega and relative newcomer Daisy Ridley), and although it didn’t give away any plot elements other than showing the passage of time, it was filled with enough stunning visuals, heart, and nostalgic charm to win over just about everyone who saw it.
Directed by J.J. Abrams (Star Trek) and co-starring Oscar Isaac (Ex_Machina), Gwendoline Christie (Game Of Thrones), Max Von Sydow (Shutter Island), Lupita Nyong’o (12 Years A Slave) and Andy Serkis (Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes), alongside returning Star Wars actors Warwick Davis, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker and Anthony Daniels, Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens will be released on December 18th in both the US and UK.
