With everything and it’s bastardized sequel/prequel/spin-off/reboot now being pipped for a release in 3D, it seems as if this latest announcement will take us even further down the gimmicky road of ‘50s or 80s 3D, by re-making a classic horror picture; The Texas Chainsaw Massacre; with the added shock value of a third dimension.
Director John Luessenhop (Takers) recently signed on to direct the movie for Lionsgate; who are once again hoping to launch a new franchise starring the memorable serial killer Leatherface, and his family of cannibals; but it’s unlikely they will every recapture the gory glory of the 1974 Tobe Hooper original, which is hailed as a true horror classic; and still thought of much more positively than the 2003 remake, and its 2006 prequel.
Horror fans, and filmgoers eager to see plenty of blood spattered on their plastic glasses, and chainsaws and meathooks apparently coming out of the cinema screen, will likely be able to watch the remake sometime next year; as the latest remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (which has the potential to be the first of six new movies) is due to enter production next month.
