Coming from Dr. Dre himself (via Twitter), on the right we have the first image of the Straight Outta Compton cast, pictured in front of their real-life counterparts, and director F. Gary Gray (Law Abiding Citizen); who’ll be helming the upcoming movie, picturing the rise of the infamous gangsta rap group N.W.A.
While many a youngster will know Dre as the man behind his hugely successfully headphones (or as the producer who put Eminem on the map), and Ice Cube as 22 Jump Street’s hilarious Captain Dickson (forming only part of an increasingly successful movie career which includes the likes of Ride Along, the Friday franchise, and even serious roles like that in Rampart), the pair got their start in life as two of the Niggaz Wit Attitudes, and are now producing the upcoming N.W.A biopic Straight Outta Compton (named after the groups hugely successful, and majorly influential, debut album, as well as where they came from).
As seen in the picture on the right (which can be clicked to view full size), Ice Cube’s part in the upcoming movie will be played by none other than his son O’Shea Jackson Jr., whilst newcomers Jason Mitchell and Corey Hawkins will be picking up the parts of Eazy-E and Dr. Dre respectively, filling out part of the group that also included DJ Yella, and MC Ren.
Beginning in the mid-80s, Straight Outta Compton will chart the rise of the N.W.A from no-name rappers to Billboard superstars, and chronicle numerous in-fighting battles, censorship, and more when it’s released on August 14th 2015 in the US (no UK release date has been confirmed at this point).
