Written and directed by Lost creator J. J. Abrams, Super 8 is an upcoming sci-fi/disaster movie in the vein of Godzilla and Cloverfield; that sees an unknown monster finding its way to rampaging a small U.S. town; and recently had a new trailer and poster released online (available to view below and on the right).
While the latest footage still fails to give us a glimpse of the monster (which has to be the right move, as seeing the creature before watching the film would undoubtedly ruin the suspense), it does show more of the story than we’ve ever seen before, amp up the tension, and really shows the influence of producer Steven Speilberg (E.T.).
Set in 1979 the film revolves around a group of kids who plan on filming their own zombie movie with a Super 8 camera (hence the name), and accidentally witness a horrific train crash; which unleashes the deadly and inhuman cargo upon the unsuspecting town in which they live.
Due to be released on June 10th in the U.S. Super 8 won’t actually be making it across the pond for a U.K. release until August 19th; by which time there should be a host of new images, info, and TV spots, as well as the temptation for U.K. viewers to find out what the ‘cargo’ is by spoiling things on the interweb (a move we would strongly advise against).
