Despite the dip in the levels of violence, and a much flatter reception than that of the original, Taken 2 has already done well enough at the Box Office to have its producers, and studio backers, discussing the possibility of a third outing for ex-CIA agent Bryan Mills and his particular set of skills.
Headliner Liam Neeson has already cast doubt on the possibility of a third film ever being produced (as it would be one hell of a push to get Bryan or a member of his family taken again), and it appears as though producers Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen weren’t planning Taken 3 to begin with as Kamen said “we didn’t start talking about Taken 3 until we saw the numbers.”
Kamen continued to say that he and Besson then said “‘Oh, okay. I think we should do a third one.’ And Fox wants us to do a third one.” But thankfully as “we’ve taken everyone we can take – it’s going to go in another direction”, and provided Neeson can be tempted back to the role which made him a late action hero, and it takes the series back to an R-rating, Taken 3 could not only be on the cards, but end up worth watching.
