Controversy erupted in Hollywood earlier this year when it emerged that the latest script from Django Unchained writer/director Quentin Tarantino, a brand new western adventure tale known as The Hateful Eight, had been leaked, and as a result he was no longer going to produce the movie, but fans may soon get another chance to experience The Hateful Eight, as Tarantino is planning to have it read live in Los Angeles.
While the idea of turning the script into a book had been touted, Tarantino’s latest brainstorm came after he was approached to step-in for Jason Reitman (who’s led live reads of scripts such as Reservoir Dogs) at the Los Angeles museum LACMA. While Quentin didn’t make the date, he’s since approached LACMA Film Independent chief Elvis Mitchell with the idea of hosting a reading of The Hateful Eight; and Mitchell subsequently told the LA Times “I recovered consciousness and brushed myself off, and I said, ‘Yes I think I can fit that in.’”
Revolving around a group of wildly different characters (including a female prisoner, some bounty hunter, and a renegade confederate soldier) being thrown together after a stagecoach gets diverted by a blizzard, The Hateful Eight may not be Tarantino’s next movie anymore but, with Tarantino both directing, and casting, the reading himself, the Aprili 24th Live Read will be a date many film fans will want to mark in their calendar (despite the pricey $200 a ticket price tag).
