Roald Dahl’s beloved books have been adapted for the cinema plenty of times before, and the next adaptation will be The BFG, a book that needs an emotional, heartfelt director to bring it to life. Can you imagine anybody more perfect than Steven Spielberg?
Based on the book of the same name published in 1982, The BFG follows a little girl named Sophie who one night encounters the Big Friendly Giant. Intimidated at first, the giant turns out to be a kindhearted soul who is considered an outcast by the other giants because unlike them, he refuses to eat little boys and girls.
The script is written by Melissa Mathison (E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial), with Ruby Barnhill starring as Sophie and Mark Rylance (The Other Boleyn Girl) as The BFG. Co-starring will be Rebecca Hall (The Town), Bill Hader (Inside Out) and Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords).
The BFG will hit US theatres on July 1, 2016, before making its way to the UK on July 22.
