It was always going to be one of the year’s biggest movies, and by the looks of things Marvel Studios will not be disappointed with their latest effort, as The Avengers (or The Avengers Assemble as it’s known in the UK) scored an amazing opening last week, and dominated the Box Office in each of the 38 territories in which it’s now playing.
Jumping to the top of the UK Box Office (and making the larger share of its profits there; where it raked in £15m from Wednesday to Sunday) The Avengers has gained an opening twice the size of that achieved by Iron Man 2 (Marvel’s highest opener so far), and has even earned the second highest ever five-day opener in Australia, and broken records in Mexico, leading Box Office Mojo to suggest The Avengers could end up grossing around $600m in the overseas markets alone, and as it’s due to open in the US this weekend, you can expect The Avengers to bring Marvel a whole hell of a lot more cash before it’s done (and a sequel to be swiftly announced – if the numbers are anything to go buy).
