The Avengers Trailer is Finally Here…

Just about everyone on the planet knows that Marvel are planning a huge superhero crossover movie titled The Avengers, which will see all of their major characters (or at least the ones who have made it onto the big screen in the past few years) teaming up to battle a huge and seemingly unstoppable force, and today is the day that fanboys have been waiting for for months; because you can now watch The Avengers trailer below (found above a number of recently released stills from the film).

While anyone who went to see Captain America: The First Avenger at the cinema (and stuck around after the credits) will have already seen a teaser trailer for the Joss Whedon (Buffy the vampire Slayer) directed movie; which is due to see Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Black Widow (played by Scarlett Johnasson in Iron Man 2), Captain America (Chris Evans), Hawkeye (played by Jeremy Renner in Thor, briefly), the Hulk (due to be played by first time Hulkster and Shutter Island star Mark Rufflo; who’s replacing Edward Norton), and Nick Fury (played by Samuel L. Jackson in most of Marvel Studios’ recent releases), teaming up to fight off an attack from Thor’s brother, the mischievous God, Loki (Tom Hiddleston); the new trailer not only provides a better look at the film, its stars (importantly providing a first-look at the Hulk), and the huge scale of the movie, but showcases some of the film’s humour, and raises a number of interesting questions.

There’s no denying that The Avengers looks amazing, has a great cast, and will be filled with huge set pieces and special effects, but what remains to be seen is if a compelling story can be told whilst also cramming so many huge characters and personalities into a mere two-hour runtime; something that we will have to wait until the film is released on May 4th 2012 to finally learn; though with Clark Gregg once again reprising his role as SHIELD Agent Phil Coulson, there’s still hope that The Avengers (what many are calling most anticipated film of next year, ahead of The Dark Knight Rises, The Hobbit, and more) will be every bit the spectacle fanboys have been waiting for, and more (even if it it’s only to see why Thor appears to be delivering a hammer-blow to Captain America).
