After having its release put on an indefinite hold, no-one knew exactly what was going to happen to The Beaver, or if it would ever make it into cinemas, but now Summit Entertainment have begun a swift marketing push for the film; by giving a rough idea of when it will be released, releasing the film’s first image, and now a full trailer (which can be viewed below); suggesting that it not only is a release definitely on the cards, but that it’s coming pretty soon.
Developed from an original script by Kyle Killen (Lone Star), The Beaver tells the tale of Walter Black; a man who’s struggle with depression has claimed his job as a corporate leader, and the relationships he held with his wife (who he has separated from) and children (who have lost all respect for him); as he attempts to reclaim the glory of his former life, and overcome his depression, with the aid of a beaver-hand-puppet that he finds in a dumpster.
Mel Gibson (Edge of Darkness) leads the cast as Walter Black, and is joined by Jodie Foster (the Silence of the Lambs star who previously appeared with Mel in Maverick, and has directed The Beaver); as Walter’s wife Meredith; and Anton Yelchin (Terminator Salvation) and Riley Thomas Stewart (You Don’t Mess With the Zohan); as his sons, Porter and Henry.
The film itself looks pretty promising; as not only has it been talked up by its director but looks to feature a good deal of comedy (having Mad Max running round with his hand stuck up a cuddly toy), and plenty of heart (as Walt tries to repair his life); and is now being pushed for release by Summit Entertainment; who recently announced that they’re hoping for a spring 2011 release in the U.S. (a U.K. release hasn’t been mentioned as yet, but will likely follow soon after the U.S.); but for anyone who’s interested, the film’s official trailer can be viewed below.
