Things keep going from bad to worse for the planned remake of The Crow; the movie adapted from James O’Barr’s classic graphic novel, about a man who returns from the grave to avenge his own murder, and that of his fiancee, on the night before Halloween (Devil’s Night); as it’s now lost yet another director.
Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later) has just left the project (possibly to take on the similarly plagued remake of Highlander), and joins the ranks of director Stephen Norrington (Blade), and actors Mark Wahlberg (The Fighter) and Bradley Cooper (Limitless), who have all shown an interest or officially signed on, only to have seen scripts by Nick Cave (The Proposition) and possibly the latest version by Alex Tse (Watchmen), end up in the bin, and the previously laid out schedule scuppered by a lawsuit from The Weinstein Company.
Relativity Media still seem keen to plough ahead with their planned remake (something many fans are totally opposed to; as they feel it wouldn’t not only be inferior to the 1994 original, but possibly disrespect the memory of star Brandon Lee; who died during the filming of the first movie), and there are rumours of F Javier Gutierrez (Before the Fall) possibly stepping up to direct the film, but if recent history is anything to go by, it won’t be long before another replacement could be needed, or the studio finally give up and agree that you can’t remake The Crow.
