It’s already lost a number of high profile actors for the lead role (some of whom were only ever rumoured to have been involved with production); including Bourne’s Matt Damon, Ocean’s 11’s George Clooney, and The Hangover’s Bradley Cooper; but now development for The Man From U.N.C.L.E. has hit another snag, as it’s lost its director, Steven Soderbergh (Contagion).
While the reasons for Soderbergh’s departure aren’t 100% clear, it appears as though he wasn’t too happy about not being able to lock in a lead actor for the adaptation of the classic soy TV series, and would have preferred a budget north of the $60million he was given in order to create what’s supposed to be a multi-location tentpole movie.
Shooting was scheduled to being in March, and should the studio still hope to meet that deadline they’ll have to work quickly in order to not only lock in a new director (who would have little time to alter the script; which has been written by Contagion’s Scott Z. Burns), but also actors for just about every role in the movie.
