While an exact reason has yet to be given, it’s likely scheduling conflicts have led to the departure of Benicio del Toro from The Predator (given he’s contracted to more work in the MCU, and has both Soldado and Star Wars in the pipeline).

Narcos star Boyd Holbrook will step up to fill the gap in the Predator reboot (as soon as he’s finished filming Wolverine solo movie Logan) which is being written and directed by Shane Black; The Nice Guys writer/director who not only starred in the original Predator movie, but was also on hand to tidy up the script to the 1987 classic.

Filming is set to begin next February, with an eye to release The Predator on February 9th 2018; when Black will be hoping to “achieve the same sense of wonderment and newness that Close Encounters had when that came out”, a task he freely admits is “very impossible, but we’re gonna try. It just has to feel like a powerful story that has a lot of flavours and textures.”
