With a car chase devised by the lads from Top Gear (Richard Hammond and Jeremy Clarkson; who’ve apparently now scored some work on a Die Hard 5 action sequence), The Sweeney is the upcoming big screen adaptation of the classic ‘70s TV show which starred John Thaw and Dennis Waterman, and recently had its first trailer released online (now available to view below).
Starring cockney acting legend Ray Winstone (The Departed) as Jack Regan, and Ben Drew (Harry Brown) as his fellow flying-squad partner George Carter, The Sweeney has been directed by Nick Love (Outlaw), moves the crime drama into a more contemporary setting (whilst thankfully keeping the duo’s gruff methods in tact), co-stars Homeland’s Damian Lewis, Captain America’s Hayley Atwell, and Downton Abbey’s Allen Leech, and already has a sequel in development, despite still being months away from its September 12th UK release date (no US release date is confirmed as yet).
