A prequel to John Carpenter’s classic horror movie of the same name (which was itself a remake of the 1951 original), Matthijs van Heijningen Jr.‘s (Red Rain) upcoming horror movie The Thing recently had its first teaser poster released (now available to view on the right), and has just had its first official teaser trailer released online; which is now available to view below.
Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Scott Pilgrim) leads the cast as Kate Lloyd; a character partially based on Ellen Ripley from the Alien films; who, a mere three days before the events of Carpenter’s film, stumbles across a seemingly alien ship buried under the ice in Antarctica, and gets into a whole mess of trouble when, after taking a tissue sample, her and the team of scientists begin to get attacked, and they realize that not only was the creature not dead, but that it has mutated, and has begun killing them off one by one, and shapeshifting to perfectly mimic its victims, and confuse the surviving humans.
Joel Edgerton (Animal Kingdom) and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Oz) also star in the film which looks to be much larger in scale than its 1982 counterpart, contains much more up to date special effects (whether that’s a good thing or not still remains to be seen), and is due to be released in both the US and UK on October 14th.
