After starring as the gritty Marvel Comics’ hero in the underrated action movie The Punisher (back in 2004), Thomas Jane was left out of the sequel/reboot (Punisher: War Zone), but has now returned to play the iconic character in a short Youtube video which can now be viewed below.
While it’s extremely likely that the video will be taken offline shortly due to various copyright infringements (Jane’s not only playing a trademarked character without, presumably, obtaining any of the necessary rights to do so, but has even got his production company; which were behind the short; to use the soundtrack from The Dark Knight), reactions to the video have been extremely positive, and have got fans speaking about not only how much they’d like to see another Punisher movie, but how suited Jane was to the role, and how they’d like to see him return.
While there’s no telling when or if Frank Castle/The Punisher will make it back to the big screen (though rumours of a new Punisher movie or TV series seem to crop up almost as often as talk of Ghostbusters 3), or how Ray Stevenson (the Punisher: War Zone star who’s told us he’d love to return to the role) would take news of Jane’s return should this Chad St John scripted short lead anywhere in the future, it’s nevertheless a fun, violent, little viral that’s certainly worth a watch.
