After being generally well received by the fans, and making a fair bit of money at the worldwide Box Office, many Marvel fans have been looking forward to seeing the Norse God pop-up in the upcoming crossover movie The Avengers, but now have even more cause to celebrate; as the studio has just announced an release date for Thor 2.
The planned sequel will see Chris Hemsworth (Star Trek) return as the hammer-swinging hero, and although co-writer Don Payne (Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer) already has a number of ideas for the follow-up, a replacement for director Kenneth Branagh (Valkyrie) will soon need to be found; as he will not be returning for Thor’s second outing.
Hemsworth is currently busy shooting The Avengers, and already has a couple of projects lined up after he’s finished (including work on Snow White and the Huntsman, and the action/thriller Shadow Runner), but will then likely jump straight back into Norse mode, as Thor 2 is due to be released on July 26th, 2013 (just over 2 months after Iron Man 3; which is scheduled for May 3rd, 2013).
