We’ve seen a couple of images, an official poster, and had the first teaser trailer arrive late last year, but now a second, and fully theatrical trailer, has been released for Thor (available to view below); the movie based on the Marvel Comics superhero of the same name.
Taking its influence from Viking mythology, Thor follows the Viking prince of the same name, as he foolishly reignites a centuries old war, is promptly banished from his home-world of Asgard (home of the Gods), and forced to live in exile on Earth; a fate he’s far from fond of in the beginning.
The God of Thunder then has to adjust to his new life, and to grips with our ways and customs (of at least those of the U.S.; where he inevitably lands), before his brother Loki decides it’s time to exterminate mankind, and he has to step up and defend the entire human race from a myriad of otherworldly gods and monsters.
Set much more on Earth, the new trailer emphasizes the comedy element of the film (with much of it coming from Thor’s misunderstanding of our ways, and the way in which he is teased by Defendor’s Kat Dennigs), and also shows the monsters and trails that the Viking hero will have to face in much greater CGI detail than before.
Chris Hemsworth (Star Trek) leasts the cast as the titular hero Thor, with Natalie Portman (Black Swan) playing his love interest; Jane Foster; Tom Hiddleston (Conspiracy) portraying the evil and destructive God Loki, and Anthony Hopkins (Silence of the Lambs) as Odin; Thor’s father and ruler of Asgard.
Also appearing in the Kenneth Branagh (Valkyrie) directed film will be Ray Stevenson (Rome), Idris Elba (Takers), Rene Russo (Ransom) and Clark Gregg (Iron Man 2), when Thor gets its 3D release on April 29th in the U.K., and on May 6th in the U.S.
