It’s been rumoured for sometime now that Tom Cruise (Top Gun) would be playing Jack Reacher in One Shot; the upcoming adaptation of Lee Child’s ninth Reacher novel; despite clearly failing to live up to the characters physical description (and specifically his towering 6”5 height, and 250 pound weight), and it’s now become official; as Cruise has just signed a deal, and will be Jack Reacher.
In One Shot Cruise will play the former military-policeman turned drifter; who begins to investigate the case of a lone sniper who’s murdered five people, and finds that there’s much more to the case than he (or anyone else) originally suspected; and has the support of the author, who’s stated that Reacher’s height is “a metaphor for an unstoppable force” and that he believes Cruise portrays the same feeling “in his own way.”
Due to be directed by Chris McQuarrie (who worked with Cruise on Valkyrie, and even did some script work on the latest installment of Cruise’s Mission: Impossible film; Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol) the action/thriller One Shot still doesn’t have an official release date (or start date) but is due to reach cinemas screens sometime in 2013.
