Stephen Sommers’ 2004 attempt at bringing Bram Stoker’s infamous vampire hunter Van Helsing to the big screen didn’t exactly leave audiences gagging for more, but it looks as if a new Van Helsing movie could soon be on the cards, with none other than Mission: Impossible star Tom Cruise taking the lead role.
Cruise will be both starring in, and producing, the new movie, which will no longer be directed by Guillermo del Toro (the Hellboy director was attached back in 2010, but has now bowed out), but is coming from writers/producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (the pair behind Mission: Impossible III); who despite producing the relative failure Cowboys and Aliens for Universal, still have the full backing of the studio; with Adam Fogelson and Donna Langley stating that “Alex and Roberto are extraordinarily talented writers and producers who know the value of a great story in building successful tent pole films”, and going on to say “they have been a major part of some of Hollywood’s biggest movies and television shows in recent history, and we’re eager to have them build on that success at Universal.”
