Based on the ninth novel in Lee Child’s Reacher series; following the adventures of the gruff anti-hero Jack Reacher (a former military policeman turned drifter, who has a tendency to dish out some fairly brutal punishment to those who do wrong or get in his way); the upcoming movie One Shot may have just found its hero, in Tom Cruise (Mission Impossible).
Having now entered talks to star as Jack Reacher, should he officially sign on Cruise would find himself playing the 6”5 hero, who will be investigating the case of a lone sniper on a killing spree, before finding that there’s more to the killings than he (or anyone else) originally suspected.
One Shot is due to be directed by Chris McQuarrie; who’s both written the script, and worked with Cruise on Valkyrie and Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol; and while there’s no confirmed start date or release date as yet, it seems as though things are finally moving forward (after the rights to the film were originally purchased back in 2005), and even the books’ author is excited; commenting that Cruise’s small stature doesn’t matter, as “Reacher’s size in the books is a metaphor for an unstoppable force, which Cruise portrays in his own way.”
