While there had been talk of other players stepping into Lara Croft shoes for the upcoming Tomb Raider reboot, we found out fairly recently Oscar-winner Alicia Vikander (Ex_Machina) would be picking up the heroine’s mantel from Angelina Jolie, and now have an official release date for the reboot; March 16th 2018.
While exact plot details are yet to be made available, it sounds as though the new film will reflect the recent video-game reboot; which focussed on a young Lara embarking upon her first adventure, and takes a somewhat more realistic approach than the original games (which famously had our dual-pistol wielding heroine fighting a T-rex).
Due to be directed by Roar Uthaug (The Wave), with filming set to begin early next year, Tomb Raider is now set to be released on the same day as Warner Bros.’ The Flash film; a DC superhero movie which is likely to receive a short delay given recent changes in its team.
