Yes, in a rather surprising move, and coming off the back off a number of recently reported ‘problems’ with the show, the BBC have announced Top Gear‘s latest host; Matt LeBlanc – yes, Joey from Friends will be the new Richard Hammond.
Following the departure of former hosts Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond (who left the BBC’s motoring show after Clarkson’s widely reported ‘fracas’ with a producer, and will soon be presenting a new motoring show for Amazon Prime) Chris Evans (not Captain America, the divisive Brit known for The Big Breakfast and TFI Friday) stepped in to become Top Gear‘s new frontman, and will be seen on air with LeBlanc once the new series begins.
Matt’s apparently been a longtime fan of the show (though, you’re hardly likely to say it’s cack if they’re paying you well enough are you?); having previously been crowned as the fastest-ever Star in a Reasonably Priced Car, and returning to defend his title once the car was changed; and recently said “as a car nut and a massive fan of Top Gear, I’m honoured and excited to be a part of this iconic show’s new chapter.”
LeBlanc will be Top Gear‘s first ever non-British host (in 39 years on the air), and is expected to join the team immediately (before filming on the fifth season on BBC Two sitcom Episodes begins in April) as the rebooted Top Gear is set to premiere in May.
Other presenters (as Top Gear was famously led by a trio of such) are expected to be announced shortly.
