Concussion, the next film that people are saying will further reignite Will Smith’s acting career, has been given a new trailer.
The biopic is helmed by Peter Landesman (Parkland), with Smith playing real-life forensic neuropathologist Dr. Bennet Omalu. In 2002, Omalu discovered CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy), a disease that affects the careers of athletes in the NFL, in the brain of Pro Football Hall of Fame-awarded Mike Webster. Since his death in the same year, Webster’s story has been the inspiration for ongoing debates in professional sport relating to player safety.
Landesman will be directing from his own script, and the film will also star Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra), Alec Baldwin (The Departed), Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Beyond the Lights) and Eddie Marsan (Sherlock Holmes).
Thankfully for Smith, Concussion will arrive right on time for the Oscars. The film will see a US release on Christmas Day, and will then hit UK theatres on January 29.
