Training Day TV Series Possible

King Kong ain’t got sh*t on TV…

Training Day was a fantastic film, it really was, but can it successfully translate to the small screen? Surprisingly enough director Antoine Fuqua (who’s latest film; the superb boxing drama Southpaw; is currently doing the rounds in cinemas nationwide) thinks it could, and is backing a proposed Training Day TV series.

Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke are extremely unlikely to reappear, though there’s still a fair bit of talent coming attached to the small-screen adaptation; with Jerry Bruckheimer (of Pirates of the Caribbean, and CSI producing fame) looking to produce the show for Warner Bros. TV, and Gangster Squad writer Will Beall lining up to script at least the pilot episode (drawing on his real-life experiences as an LAPD officer, his movie work, and his time served on successful episodic TV such as Castle).

The basic premise will remain the same; with a rookie detective going out to learn the ropes from a hard-nosed and likely corrupt experience detective; though there will be minor twists, such as setting it in present day Los Angeles, and potentially changing the ethnicities of the main stars.

So far it’s only a proposed package deal but, given the talent involved already, the recognisable name of the new potential franchise, and in-built audience, it shouldn’t be too long before a major US network commissions at least a Training Day pilot episode.
