Written by Richard Curtis, the man not only known for his hugely successful romantic-comedies (Notting Hill, Four Weddings and a Funeral, and Love Actually), but both Blackadder and Mr. Bean, Trash is the upcoming drama based on Andy Mulligan’s novel of the same name, and has just proved itself worthy of scooping the top prize at the Rome Film Festival this past weekend.
Director Stephen Daldry (Billy Elliot) returned to Rome to collect the prestigious People’s Choice award (not the only accolade received by the film, as it also won the Public Prize during the festival) for the British/Brazilian production which sees two teenage boys picking through a pile of trash (as they do everyday, hoping to find something useful), only to discover a wallet which holds the power to change their lives.
Once the police come looking for the wallet, the boys know what they’ve found must be important, and go looking to uncover the secrets it holds, on their way running into a pair of American missionaries (played by The Way’s Martin Sheen, and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo remake’s Rooney Mara) who may just be able to help.
Making its way to UK cinemas on January 30th (2015) Trash is a powerful and refreshingly different film, providing a glimpse into a life many people know very little about, and you can now see the official international trailer for Trash below.
