It was less than a week ago that we posted the official teaser trailer for True Grit; an upcoming western adapted from the classic Charles Portis novel of the same name (which was released back in 1968, and actually gained its first film adaptation; in the form of a well regarded John Wayne picture; the following year); but already the full theatrical trailer is doing the rounds online, and can be seen below.
The film is the latest picture from the Coen brothers (No Country for Old Men), and focusses on the efforts of a young girl named Mattie Ross (Hailee Steinfeld), as she hooks up with a gruff, grumpy, old, Marshall named Roost Cogburn (Jeff Bridges, Crazy Heart), and attempts to track down the man that murdered her father.
Also appearing are Matt Damon (star of the Bourne franchise), Josh Brolin (who appeared in the Coen brothers’ No Country for Old Men, and will soon be seen in Men in Black III) as the villain, and Barry Pepper (Saving Private Ryan); in the role of Ned Pepper (an outlaw previously played by The Godfather’s Robert Duvall.)
True Grit looks decidedly more gritty than the original John Wayne movie, and seems to be already eyeing up Oscar nominations; as it contains the work of a slew of Oscar-nominated, and Oscar-winning, people, and is being released right in the middle of awards season; when it opens in U.S. cinemas on Christmas Day, and in the U.K. on January 14th 2011.
