Two Writers For Clash of the Titans 2

Despite being a relative critical failure, this year’s Clash of the Titans remake has proved to be a financial hit for Warner Bros. and raked in, a pretty respectable, $486 million at the Box Office; which was a decent return given its $125 million budget; and as a result the studio are already at work on developing a sequel.

Greg Berlanti (Green Lantern) will be working on the original treatment, along with Dan Mazeau (Johnny Quest) and David Leslie Johnson (Red Riding Hood), before stepping back (to work on two more comic-book movies; the Green Lantern sequel, and The Flash) and letting Mazeau and Johnson finish off the final script; which will not be directed by Louis Leterrier (the director of the first Clash), but most likely helmed by Jonathan Liebsman (Battle: Los Angeles) (as Warner are currently in talks with him, and other such directors, to take up the chair).

The idea of hiring the two very different writers (Mazeau is known for high-octance set pieces, whilst Johnson is more comfortable with supernatural thrillers; such as his work on The Orphan) is to create a merging of talents, and streamline the whole writing process (which typically ends up with a myriad of mismatched ideas all cobbled together in some form or another which then has to be fixed later on), so that filming can begin next January, and then the finished movie; which will again see Sam Worthington (Avatar) and Gemma Arterton (Prince of Persia) returning, and actually being shot in 3D this time around (rather than cheaply converted after the fact, like the first movie); and will hopefully joining an ever-growing list of blockbuster movies that are due to be released in 2012.
