While Universal Soldier: Regeneration may have brought back both stars of the original 1992 movie (Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren) it didn’t exactly meet the expectations of its fans, fans who now have a new reason to be excited/concerned, as the classic sci-fi/action movie Universal Solider is now being rebooted as a TV show.
There’s no denying the potential for pitfalls with such a property, yet there’s also no denying that the upcoming reboot has a solid team involved with production; as it’s not only being produced by both Allen Shapiro and Craig Baumgarten (both of whom produced the first film), but written by Damian Kindler (who’s had previous success in bringing films to TV, when he worked on Stargate SG-1); and could easily end up being better than the past couple of direct-to-DVD Universal Soldier sequels, when it eventually hits TV screens on an as yet unknown date.
