The Expendables 2 rumour mill just keeps on churning, and throwing out so much false information it’s difficult to sift through, but now we have one of possibly the most credible rumours to date; as Sheldon Lettich (a long time friend of Jean Claude Van Damme, and the writer/director of Double Impact) has reportedly told a JCVD fansite that The Muscles from Brussels, Jean Claude Van Damme, will be appearing as one of the principal villains in The Expendables 2.
Despite reportedly turning down a role in the first movie over refusing to lose a fight to Jet Li, Van Damme’s name remains high on the list of actors fans wish to see grace the sequel, and his appearance has often been hinted at by writer/director/star Sylvester Stallone (although Lettich previously stated he would only appear if Steven Seagal was not in the film); making this a likely possibility, despite the lack of official confirmation at this time.
Stallone is also reportedly trying to get fellow action heroes Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger back for bigger roles than the brief cameos they provided in The Expendables, and may or may not be returning to direct the sequel (that piece of information seems to be changing on a bi-weekly basis, although he is currently stating he will not return as a director), which according to star Randy Couture is due to begin shooting around August/September.
