Disappointing many a fan of The Expendables, writer/director/star Sylvester Stallone confirmed back in February that his next film would not be a straight up Expendables sequel, as many had hoped, but the upcoming action/comedy Headshot, which may have found a new director in Walter Hill.
Since Stallone’s involvement with Headshot was announced, the formerly attached director Wayne Kramer (Crossing Over) has left the movie due to creative differences with the star; which led Sly to comment that Kramer’s “vision was much darker and exceptionally more violent than how the project was originally conceived” and although he was “dismissed by producers earlier this week, there were no volatile clashes”; leaving the door open for a new director to step in.
It’s been reported that a number of director’s are being considered for the project; which will place Stallone as a hitman who joins forces with a currently un-cast NYC cop, in order to investigate a series of brutal murders spanning several states; although it’s clear that Stallone is looking to work with 48 Hours director Walter Hill, as he “completely respects Walter’s incredible body of work, and hopes the legendary director will become attached to the project.”
While Walter’s involvement hasn’t yet been secured, he has already taken meetings to discuss the possibility of helming the feature, but is only one of several possible helmers; according to Headshot backers IM Global; who will need to fill the position fairly quickly, as Headshot is due to enter production before the summer.
