Looking to cash in on the revival of the western genre; which was likely spurred on by the Coen brothers’ remake of True Grit, and is soon to have a number of movies entering production and hitting the big screen (including blockbusters like Cowboys & Aliens, and smaller indie projects); Warner Bros. have recently acquired TS Nowlin’s script for Wild Guns; an epic western adventure.
Reusing a classic and ever-popular western hero, Wild Guns will see cowboy legend Wyatt Earp (who’s already made it big in movies such as Tombstone and Wyatt Earp) re-teaming with his faithful companion Doc Holiday, in order to rescue the daughter of Sitting Bull from a mysterious Shaman who’s terrorising the plains.
Taking place just after The American Civil War, and combining elements from both Tombstone and Sherlock Holmes, there’s no denying that the Gianni Nunnari (300) produced film has the potential to be a massive hit, but as there’s currently no director attached, no cast members signed on, and no release date scheduled, it could be quite some time before Wild Guns hits the screen; by which time fans may have had their fill of Wyatt Earp, thanks to an upcoming comic series being developed by Sam Raimi (Spider-Man), and a planned indie movie about Earp’s early years starring Val Kilmer (who incidentally played Doc Holiday in Tombstone, but has been more recently confined to low budget pictures such as Gun).
