Due to be released later this year, the upcoming novel from Jay Asher and Carolyn Mackler; The Future of Us; is already gaining a great deal of attention, and has just had the rights to a film adaptation purchased by Warner Bros.; who made a quick deal on Friday to secure the movie for themselves.
The novel, and movie, will be set in 1996, and focus on a young girl who logs onto the internet for the first time, only to see her Facebook profile from 15 years in the future pop-up; causing her and her best friend to alter their lives in order to fit, or reject their future lives, with minor decisions having a major influence on who they become.
As of yet there’s no script, no director, no stars, and obviously no start date for the movie, although it looks to be one to watch, not simply because of the interest concept, but the fact that Asher’s first novel (13 Reasons Why) became a massive international bestseller, and is itself undergoing the movie treatment over at Universal.
