With the constantly increasingly popularity of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA for short) fighting, it was only a matter of time before an impressive drama came along that brought everything we expect from a sports movie; including trials, tribulation, heartache, an underdog story, and a huge dose of heart; enter Warrior.
Starring Tom Hardy (Inception) and Joel Edgerton (King Arthur) as two estranged brothers who enter a huge MMA tournament (with the promise of a massive cash prize) for different reasons (that both hinge on the money), and inevitably both end up making it to the final; for the big ‘is he going to let his brother win?’ showdown.
Warrior co-stars Jennifer Morrison (House), Nick Nolte (The Thin Red Line), and Kevin Dunn (Transformers), has been directed by Gavin O’Connor (Pride and Glory), and is due to be released on September 9th in the US, before making its UK release date on September 23rd, but anyone who wishes to catch a little glimpse of what’s in-store before then can watch the official trailer here, or watch the clip below (which sees Tom Hardy; as Tommy Riordan; sparring with a professional fighter).
