After the first movie to be a huge fan favourite, it was inevitable we’d see a second Sin City movie, and although co-writers/directors Robert Rodriguez (Machete) and Frank Miller (the graphic novel writer who’s penned such tomes as 300 and Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, and also directed The Spirit) have been working on Sin City 2 for a number of years, news has now surface that William Monahan has also been drafted in to work on the script.
Monahan (best known for writing the screenplay for The Departed) has now been brought in to re-touch a script written by Frank; subtitled A Dame to Kill For; which will apparently follow the structure of the first movie; “with three stories and a wrap-around” that include “two new stories,” according to Rodriguez.
And while it’s always difficult to find a gap in Rodriguez’s hectic schedule, it appears as though the funding for Sin City 2 has now been freed up, that one of the new stories (titled The Long Bad Night) “could be shot as early as this year”, and that if the movie “is going to happen, it’s going to happen this year.”
