It’s been the subject of rumour for quite sometime, and despite the attempted revival that became the rather uninspiring film The X-Files: I Want To Believe, it appears as though The X-Files could soon undergo a full revival, and return to its television roots, thanks to a planned TV reboot by 20th Century Fox, and Fox’s TV department.
News comes on the backend of the clear success gained from Fox’s limited series of 24, potentially paving the way for other iconic shows to make a return; Chris Carter’s supernatural serial being a perfect example of a property primed for revival; and while there’s little to go on yet other than an optimistic wink, Fox TV Group chairman Gary Newman has said talks have begun, and he’s “hopeful” about the possibility of a new X-Files instalment.
Whether the next chapter in The X-Files saga also brings David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson back into the fray, or reboots the show altogether, is another matter, and will have to wait for another day.
