As the release date for Kick-Ass director Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men prequel; X-Men: First Class; begins to draw nearer, we’re beginning to see more and more of the film; from first-look images, to more images, posters, an official trailer, and now two more posters highlighting the film’s main characters, and what they will eventually become.
Still based on the same Marvel Comics as the original trilogy, X-Men: First Class is set back in the 1960s, at the height of the Cold War, and chronicles the breakdown of relations between best friends Charles Xavier (played in the former trilogy by Patrick Stewart) and Erik Lensherr (previously portrayed by Ian McKellen); who eventually become known as Professor X, and Magneto respectively, and head two opposing groups of mutants; both striving to be accepted by regular people, in very different ways.
Whilst not revealing much of the plot, or showing many of the movie’s characters, the new posters are decidedly moody and effective (using reflections to show the future incarnations of the two powerful mutants), and are bound to generate some more buzz around the title, ahead of its U.K. release on June 2nd (being released in the U.S. on June 3rd).
Featuring James McAvoy (Wanted) and Michael Fassbender (Centurion) in the two lead roles, X-Men: First Class is being pushed as the first movie in another potential trilogy, and co-stars Kevin bacon (Hollow Man), Jennifer Lawrence (Winter’s Bone), Nicholas Hoult (Clash of the Titans, 2010), January Jones (Anger Management), Jason Flemyng (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels), and Rose Byrne (Knowing).
