According to our review it’s “possibly the best X-Men movie so far” and now X-Men: First Class; the Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass) directed X-Men prequel which was released earlier this year; is soon to have a fully scripted sequel; as Simon Kinberg (Sherlock Holmes) has just been hired to write its follow-up.
Simon already has a little experience with the X-Men franchise (having script writing credits on X-Men: The Last Stand), so has some idea of where the characters will end up, but so far there’s no official word on the plot of the upcoming film, or if everyone will be up to returning for a sequel (as First Class 2 really depends on the involvement of James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender).
Still, even though there’s no official word on the direction of the sequel, Simon has a couple of jumping off points; as Vaughn thinks it’d “be fun to open with the Kennedy assassination, and reveal that the ‘magic bullet’ was controlled by Magneto”, and Bryan Singer (X-Men director and now series producer) thinks it’d be a good idea to involve both the Civil Rights movement, and Vietnam.
