Written by Diablo Cody, and directed by Jason Reitman; the pair who gave the world Juno; the upcoming comedy-drama Young Adult stars Charlize Theron (Monster) as Mavis Gary; a successful teen-literature writer, who decides her life hasn’t exactly panned out the way she’d hoped; and recently had its first trailer released online (now available to view below).
Mavis’ plan to put her life back on track involves basically resetting back to her high-school days, and reclaiming her former high-school sweetheart; who now happens to be a happily married man played by The A-Team’s Patrick Wilson (a small hiccup Mavis believes they can “beat” together); and in her efforts to reclaim him, and her glory days, she finds solace in another former classmate (King of Queens’ Patton Oswalt).
Judging from the trailer Young Adult looks to contain its fair share of dry-witted laughs, and will be narrated by J.K. Simmons (the Oz actor who also worked with Reitman when he played Juno’s father, Mac MacGuff, in Juno) when it’s released on December 16th in the US, before finally opening in the UK on February 10th next year.
Matt Wheeldon.
