With its unusual blend of man-eating zombies and laugh-out-loud humour, the 2009 post-apocalyptic comedy Zombieland grossed $75.6 million at the Box Office, and fans have been eagerly waiting for the official word on a sequel ever since; though it now appears a sequel may be off, as work has just begun on a potential Zombieland TV series.
Fox and Sony Pictures Television have teamed up to develop a series based on the film which starred Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network) and Woody Harrelson (Cheers), and are planning to produce a half-hour comedy show that would in essence replace the big-screen sequel which was tentatively planned for release in 2013; something a number of fans will undoubtedly have reservations about.
Clearly one of the most impressive things about the Zombieland movie was the amazingly funny cameo from Bill Murray (Ghostbusters), and it’s hard to imagine the Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (yes the original writers are returning to craft the show) written TV series could hope to replicate, or consistently better, that on a TV budget, but nevertheless we may soon get the chance to find out if they can; as the producers are hoping to having the show ready for the 2012/2013 broadcast season.
