Star Wars Blu-ray Update

It was way back in April that the release of all six Star Wars movies on Blu-ray was finally confirmed by Geroge Lucas’ Head of Fan Relations; Steve Sansweet; and although a firm release date hadn’t been confirmed back then, he did state that people had been working on a box-set  for “a couple of years”, that would include “lots of extra material”; material that George Lucas spoke about in a recent interview with The Daily Show’s John Stewart.

George Lucas (the legendary creator of the Star Wars saga) said that he will be including “different kinds of additional material” to what has come before, because he believes that fans “have seen enough behind the scenes footage for a lifetime.”

Steve Sansweet said that those working on the box-set keep “finding” new material to include, and Lucas himself (accompanied by special guests Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher; who played Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia respectively) showcased some of that material (coming in the form of some extremely well received, never-before-seen, deleted scenes) at the Star Wars Celebration V convention.

As well as the deleted scenes, fans will get documentaries, behind the scenes moments, interviews, retrospectives features, and some more never-before-seen footage, although they won’t be able to view the original, unaltered, versions of the prints; as George Lucas says it would be too expensive to include them; “it’s a very, very, expensive process to do it, so when we did the transfer to digital, we only transferred really the upgraded version.”

Still, it sounds as if there will be plenty of goodies, and a nicely gleaming transfer, to keep the Fanboys satisfied (at least until the next release) for when the box-set of all six movies is finally released (at an as yet unspecified price) in the autumn of next year.
