Alien Prequel Morphs into Prometheus

While it had been talked about for a long time, and a whole heap of money had been invested by Fox, the planned prequel to the Alien franchise; which was to be directed by the director of the first Alien movie, Ridley Scott; has been officially cancelled, and has been replaced by an original project titled Prometheus.

In a sense the Alien prequel’s haven’t exactly been replaced by Prometheus, as the idea for the new and original movie came morphed out Ridley Scott’s idea for the prequel, and simply became Prometheus; a film which is said to have its own unique mythology and universe.

Yet despite the originality and unique mythology of Prometheus, Ridley Scott states that “the keen fan will recognize strands of Alien’s DNA” within the script that he has been developing with Lost’s Damon Lindelof; a man who believes that Ridley’s vision for the movie is not only “daring and visceral”, but “the last thing anyone expects”, and a welcome inclusion “in a world flooded with prequels, sequels, and reboots.”

Little information has been released about the plot, as it’s being kept a tightly guarded secret, although we do know that Prometheus holds five major acting roles; the first of which has been filled by Noomi Rapace, who has been a favorite of Scott’s since her saw her in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.

Rapace will be appearing as a scientist named Elizabeth Shaw, and whilst nothing has been officially confirmed as yet, there are rumours of either Charlize Theron (Monster) or Angelina Jolie (The Tourist) pinning down the other lead role (a character named Vickers) in the film which is Scott’s first sci-fi since Blade Runner (1982), and now has an official release date of March 9th 2012.
