The Tourist: Trailer

Remade from the French film Anthony Zimmer, The Tourist has been directed by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck (the Oscar-winning director behind The Lives of Others, aka Das Leben der Anderen), and focusses on an American tourist who gets seduced by an attractive woman whilst on vacation, and gets a whole lot more than he bargained for.

Johnny Depp (Alice in Wonderland) plays the titular tourist, who falls for a sophisticated woman called Elise (Angelina Jolie, Salt) whilst visiting Italy, only to find out that she seduced him in order to confuse the men that are following her, and flush out a well hidden criminal with whom she was once romantically involved.

Florian has stated that the drama/thriller is very much “a love story”, as while Depp’s character (Frank) pursues Jolie’s (Elise) and gets dragged deeper into her game, her feelings for him “confuse her whole world”, at a time when she needs to be thinking clearly; as everyone involved goes through a series of manipulations, and realize that they are simply pawns in a game that they didn’t understand at first.

Paul Bettany (Legion), Timothy Dalton (Licence to Kill), Rufus Sewell (A Knight’s Tale), and Haley Webb (The Final Destination) will be co-starring alongside Depp and Jolie, in the movie; that takes place in the heart of Venice, reads like a much more adult Knight and Day, has just had its first trailer released, and is due to be released this December.
