Fresh off her Oscar nominated role as the girlfriend of professional road-sweeper/boxer Micky Ward in The Fighter, Amy Adams is now signed on to appear as the most famous and important woman in the entire Superman universe; Lois Lane; the take-no-nonsense reporter who won the titular hero’s heart when he first clapped eyes on her at The Daily Planet.
Director Zack Snyder (who’s currently doing the promotional tour for Sucker Punch) confirmed that whilst he had to conduct a “giant search for Lois” and “did a lot of auditioning”, the role eventually went to Adams after a simple meeting which left him feeling that she was “perfect for it.”
Climbing aboard the latest Superman reboot (the full title of which reads Superman: Man of Steel), Adams will be joining The Tudors’ Henry Cavill (who will be playing the infamous DC superhero), and both Diane Lane (Unfaithful) and Kevin Costner (Prince of Thieves); who have now officially signed on to play Superman’s adoptive parents, Martha and Jonathan Kent.
Attempting to bring the story of the classic comic book hero up-to-date, the new film is being produced by Batman Begins’ Christopher Nolan, from a story created by himself and his Batman Begins’ collaborator David S. Goyer, and is due to begin filming this coming August, ahead of a planned December 2012 release date.
