Given Avatar was released in 2009, it’s sequel has already been a long time coming (given the way the Hollywood machine churns them out nowadays), but it’s going to be longer still; as Avatar 2 was recently pulled from its Christmas 2017 release date.
Fox are yet to comment on Avatar 2‘s disappearance from the 2017 release calendar, and have offered very little information on the current state of the film, and its two planned sequels. The studio have also offered no indication as to when we will now see the next James Cameron CGI-fest.
It’s not as if this couldn’t be seen coming however, as not only has the Avatar 2 news desk been especially quiet of late, we recently learned Stars Wars: Episode VIII had moved its release to December 2017 (there is some speculation as to whether Avatar backed down, not wishing to go up against Star Wars, or if Star Wars simply moved into a slot Disney knew would soon be vacated).
As for Avatar 2… Fox CEO Jim Gianapolous said it best when he said “Cameron moves at his own pace…”
