Disney Making Live-Action Mulan

Disney appears to be continuing the trend of pillaging their animation back-catalogue for films to adapt into live-action hits (and who can blame them, as Cinderella has already grossed upwards of $300 million worldwide), and have just announced plans to give Mulan the live-action treatment.

Coming from the classic Chinese legend Mulan tells the tale of a young girl who takes her father’s place as a conscript in the (all male) army, before going on to become the country’s best warrior and leader, and the latest version of the tale has been scripted by Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Hynek.

Set to be produced by the team behind We’re The Millers (Chris Bender and J.C. Spink), Disney will be hoping the live-action Mulan can stack up against it’s original animated counter-part (which made over $300 million, and earned a Golden Globe), the new live-action Cinderella, and the multitude of other live-action movies the Mouse House has in the works (including a Beauty And The Beast adaptation starring Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, and Luke Evans; a new take on The Jungle Book; Alice In Wonderland 2; and live-action Dumbo) when it’s released on an as yet unannounced date.
