It’s gained consistently high ratings and praise, but now Downton Abbey; the British period drama which airs on ITV, and follows the lives of a fictional aristocratic family and their servants; has received an extremely high honour, and entered the Guinness Book of World Records as the “most critically acclaimed television show”, with the “Highest critical review ratings for a TV show.”
Created by Oscar-winning writer Julian Fellowes (Gosford Park) Downton has not only averaged a score of 92 out of 100 on Metacritic, but been nominated for 11 Primetime Emmy Awards, has now become the first British show to ever hold the record; beating out previous winners Mad Men, Sons of Anarchy, and Modern Family; which producer Gareth Neame believes “confirms the UK’s status as the home of world-class drama.”
Downton Abbey series two premieres tonight on ITV in the UK, and will make its way to the US on January 8th.
