Game of Thrones Season Six breaking UK viewing records

Kicking off on April 25th the sixth season of HBO’s flagship show Game Of Thrones is proving to be a bigger hit than ever; with the season six premiere breaking viewing records at the show’s UK home, Sky Atlantic.

It’s the most watched Sky entertainment programme to date, with near five million views thus far – 3.8 million views have come from the 2am simulcast, 9pm airing, plus repeats and viewings via Sky+, and a further one million views have been gathered through both the Sky Go app and NOW TV.

Unsurprisingly, the previous record holder was the Game Of Thrones season five finale (which earned a total of 3.27 million views through Sky, and 400,000 via streaming platforms), and while data hasn’t been finalised for episodes two and three (we’re only three episodes in to the current season) currently figures for both are well about the two million mark.

Gary Davey, Managing Director, Content, Sky commented:“Across Europe, the Game of Thrones phenomenon continues to build. We’re so proud that through our partnership with HBO we can be part of it, as well as offer our customers the flexibility to watch their favourite show in a way that suits them best. Three years ago we declared Game of Thrones to be the best TV series of all time. And as these numbers demonstrate, the show just keeps getting better.”

Game Of Thrones Season Six continues on HBO in the US (9pm Sundays), and Sky Atlantic in the UK (simulcast at 2am Monday morning, with a repeat at 9pm Monday evening), and has been undeniably excellent thus far.
