Seemingly attempting to assemble one of the best ensemble casts possible today, and tapping the talent from a number of hugely successful current properties (Star Wars, Sherlock, Avengers, Game of Thrones, and the slightly less current The Silence of the Lambs) director Justin Chadwick has just added a number of impressive names to his upcoming espionage thriller Official Secrets; including Harrison Ford and Anthony Hopkins.
Ford and Hopkins will join the likes of Martin Freeman, Paul Bettany, and Natalie Dormer in the film which will be adapted from the book The Spy Who Tried To Stop A War: Katharine Gun And The Secret Plot To Sanction The Iraq Invasion (by Sara and Gregory Bernstein), and focus on a British intelligence officer who was arrested after leaking classified information to the press, attempting to prove the US were illegally pressuring the UN to approve a resolution to go to war with Iraq in 2003.
Natalie Dormer will star as Katharine Gun (the woman who tried to stop the war), with Paul Bettany picking up the part of the reporter who she leaks the information to, Martin Freeman playing the Observer’s foreign affairs editor, and Ford and Hopkins playing a CIA agent and retired British general respectively.
Chadwick has some experience in bringing these true-tales to life (he recently directed Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom), and will begin filming Official Secrets in May, after hopefully selling the project at the upcoming European Film Market in Berlin (beginning on February 11th).
