Independence Day Gets 3D Re-Release

It worked for The Lion King, it worked for Titanic, and it even worked for Beauty and the Beast, so movie execs have got to thinking “what else can we resurrect, throw some post-production 3D conversion at, and drain a few more pennies out of?” and come up with the idea of giving the 1996 alien invasion movie Independence Day a 3D re-release.

Yes, Will Smith will be back, the White House will explode again, and Bill Pullman will once more deliver a rousing speech that ensures the cast “will not go quietly into the night” (despite the fact they’d clearly made it through the night, and were planning a mid-morning assault at that point in the film), as Independence Day (otherwise known as ID4) will soon be getting a Stereo 3D conversion (the same type of conversion that Titanic received), and popping up for its theatrical re-release next year.

The Roland Emmerich directed disaster movie will arrive on July 3rd (the day before US independence day) 2013; slotting into a date that was recently vacated by Steven Spielberg’s upcoming Robopocalypse; and possibly lead the way for the development of the long gestating Independence Day sequels (provided the Box Office takings hold up well enough second time around).
